Which Abloy Models This Applies To

Abloy’s smart lock ecosystem breaks into three tiers, and the part you need depends entirely on which tier is on your door.

Abloy Protec2 CLIQ - the electromechanical cylinder system. These use a physical Protec2 key with an embedded electronic chip. The cylinder itself is mechanical; the “smart” lives in the key and the wall-mounted programming device. If your CLIQ cylinder is sticking, we need the exact cylinder length: 31/31mm is standard for Fort Worth’s 1-3/4″ entry doors, but we’ve found 1980s Westover Hills builds with 2-1/4″ slabs that need 31/45mm extenders.

Abloy Sento / Sento One - the motorized smart handle sets. These are full replacement sets with Bluetooth modules and motorized deadbolts. The critical spec is backset: 2-3/8″ versus 2-3/4″. Measure from the door edge to the center of the existing bore. We carry both backsets on the truck, but the wrong one means a second trip.

Abloy Pulse - the newer NFC/Bluetooth hybrid. These require a specific door prep with a 54mm bore, larger than standard. Retrofitting a Pulse into an existing Schlage or Kwikset hole means a wrap plate or a door rebuild.

OEM Abloy cylinders and smart modules carry a two-year factory warranty. We also source from Abloy-authorized distributors for equivalent spec at reduced cost, and we document the source on your invoice per Haven Standard Clause 4. The name on the van is the warranty.

Signs Your Abloy Smart Lock Installation Is Failing

• Motor runs but bolt doesn’t throw. The clutch mechanism inside the Sento/Pulse gearbox has stripped. This happens when the door frame shifts seasonally - common in Fort Worth’s clay soils - and the bolt starts binding. The motor strains, the clutch sacrifices itself. We see this most in Ridglea and Arlington Heights homes built on the old creek beds.
• Key override binds or catches mid-turn. The Protec2 disc pack is out of alignment with the smart clutch interface. Dirt, temperature cycling, or a bent key can cause it. If you force it, you’ll twist the tailpiece. We stock the tailpiece and the re-alignment jig.
• App shows “locked” but door opens freely. The position sensor has failed or slipped. The lock thinks it’s engaged; the bolt never extended. This is a security gap, not a convenience issue. We replace the sensor module and recalibrate.
• Battery drains in under 30 days. The motor is working harder than designed, usually from frame binding or a misaligned strike. We check the strike plate alignment with a feeler gauge and fix the root cause, not just swap batteries.
• Intermittent Bluetooth or NFC drops. The antenna module is degrading, or the firmware is two revisions behind. We carry the programming hardware to update firmware in the field and replace the antenna if the solder joints have cracked from vibration.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

The range reflects door condition, not bait-and-switch. A straight swap on a plumb door in Mira Vista takes less time than a retrofit on a 1978 Tanglewood entry that’s settled an inch. We quote the full installed price when you call, and Haven Standard Clause 1 prohibits our technician from changing it at your door. The price on the phone is the price on the invoice. Every job includes a documented photo record left with you before we leave.

DIY or Call Us?

Here’s where an owner can safely look and where the job turns on them.

Safe to check: Battery type and voltage (four AA lithiums for most Sento models; don’t use alkalines in Fort Worth summer heat). Backset measurement. Whether the bolt binds manually with the thumb turn. App firmware version.

Where DIY goes wrong: The Protec2 disc pack requires a special holding tool to maintain alignment during cylinder removal. Without it, the discs scatter. The Sento clutch is under spring tension; improper disassembly launches components. The Pulse NFC antenna is bonded to the escutcheon with specific torque - over-tighten and the trace cracks, under-tighten and moisture gets in during a Texas gully-washer.
