Medeco Residential Locksmith in Fort Worth: What to Know First

We provide independent Medeco residential locksmith service in Fort Worth, with most calls completed same-day and pricing quoted in writing before we dispatch. A Medeco deadbolt rekey typically runs $45-$75 per cylinder, while a full high-security lock change with new Medeco hardware installed starts around $280-$420, depending on the series and door prep. The price we quote by phone is the price on the invoice - Haven Standard Clause 1, in force since 2002, prohibits our technicians from changing it at your door.

This page is for Fort Worth homeowners who already own Medeco locks and need service: a sticky deadbolt in the Near Southside, a lost key after closing on a place in Fairmount, or a retrofit from a standard cylinder to Medeco’s pick-resistant system in Ridglea Hills. Call (817) 765-4998 to speak with a live person and get your written estimate.

How Medeco Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

  • Medeco Maxum 11*60 series: sticky or grinding deadbolt throw. The dual-locking bar mechanism in the Maxum deadbolt accumulates Fort Worth’s fine caliche dust through the keyway, especially on homes near new construction in Walsh or Pecan Plantation. The bars lose their smooth cam action and the bolt jams halfway. We disassemble the housing, clean the bar channels with a non-residue solvent, and relubricate with a dry PTFE formula that won’t attract more grit. If the bars show wear from forced cycling, we replace with OEM Medeco parts - aftermarket bars in this series often lack the hardened steel core and will deform under torque.
  • Medeco Original (key-in-knob) cylinders: key won’t withdraw at neutral position. The sidebar springs in pre-2010 Original cylinders fatigue faster in Texas heat, which is why we see this disproportionately in Fort Worth’s older Mistletoe Heights and Berkeley Place homes with original hardware. The sidebar fails to retract fully, trapping the key. We replace the spring set and inspect the sidebar for burrs; if the sidebar itself is scored, we replace the cylinder rather than band-aid it, because a filed sidebar compromises the entire pick-resistant geometry.
  • Medeco M3 (Biaxial successor) cylinders: false set - key turns 45 degrees and stops. The M3’s angled pin chambers are designed to defeat picking, but they also make the cylinder sensitive to key duplication variance. A key cut on a worn duplicator (common at hardware store kiosks) lifts pins to slightly wrong heights. The key enters, starts to turn, then binds when the sidebar can’t align. We decode the pin stack with a Medeco-specific gauge, identify which chamber is off, and either cut a new key to factory spec or repin the cylinder if the original keyway is worn.
  • Medeco Logic (electromechanical): battery compartment corrosion. The Logic series uses a 9-volt battery tray mounted in the interior escutcheon. In Fort Worth’s humidity swings, condensation forms in the tray and corrodes the contacts; we’ve pulled units from Tanglewood and Westover Hills with green-caked terminals that read “low battery” even with fresh cells. We clean the contacts, apply a dielectric grease barrier, and replace the tray if the spring clips have lost tension. We do not attempt to reprogram Logic credentials - that requires Medeco factory software - but we can restore mechanical function and refer you for credential updates.
  • Medeco rim cylinders on storm doors: latch misalignment after seasonal settling. Fort Worth’s expansive clay soils shift door frames between wet springs and dry Augusts. The rim cylinder’s tailpiece connects to a surface-mounted latch, and even 1/8 inch of frame movement binds the linkage. We don’t just file the strike plate; we check the door square with a long level, shim the frame if needed, and reset the cylinder setback so the tailpiece operates without strain. A rim cylinder forced out of alignment will eventually shear its retaining screws.

Our Medeco Residential Locksmith Process

Our Medeco Residential Locksmith Process
  1. 1
Call and written quote. You describe the lock, the symptom, and the series if you know it. We quote a firm price range by phone, with the final figure fixed before dispatch. No “service call plus labor plus parts” mystery.
  2. 2
On-site diagnosis with photo record. The technician arrives in a marked van, uniformed, with background verification available on request. We photograph the lock condition, the door prep, and any related hardware - this documented photo record is left with you at job completion, Haven Standard Clause 4.
  3. 3
Parts decision: OEM or qualified aftermarket. For Medeco, we stock OEM cylinders, springs, and key blanks. For some applications - a rim cylinder on a secondary door, for instance - we may offer a quality aftermarket equivalent at lower cost, with the tradeoff explained in writing. You choose; we don’t default to the most expensive option.
  4. 4
The repair, with testing. We perform the work, then cycle the lock 25 times with the customer’s key and our test key. Medeco’s sidebar mechanism must prove smooth at every angle; a sticky sidebar we missed in bench testing will show up here.
  5. 5
Documentation and warranty. You receive the written invoice with part numbers, labor breakdown, and total; the photo record; and the 365-Day Done Right Promise card. The name on the van is the warranty.

Why Fort Worth Homeowners Call Novak Lock & Security Fort Worth for Medeco Work

Why Fort Worth Homeowners Call Novak Lock & Security Fort Worth for Medeco Work

We’ve installed or serviced over 60,000 locks since 2002, and a growing share in Fort Worth are Medeco units in homes where the owner specifically sought pick-resistant hardware. Daniel Novak trained on high-security cylinders at West Los Angeles College, where the shop instructors graded on picks, not presentations - that foundation carries through to how our techs diagnose a sidebar bind or a biaxial pin misalignment today.

We also service Schlage and Kwikset, which matters when your Fort Worth home has a mix of hardware grades and you want one technician who understands how they interface - a Medeco deadbolt paired with a Schlage entry handle, for instance, with conflicting backsets or faceplate dimensions.
